Science Month Celebration
Science is a discipline often associated with critical thinking and experiments to come up with sound conclusions based on data-driven evidences. To show appreciation for the discipline, we celebrated Science Month with the theme “Expanding the Horizons: Future of STEM”. The theme focuses on the innovations and contributions of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in our society. Everything that we are experiencing right now is due to the efforts done by STEM. To strengthen and expand our understanding of STEM, the Science Department came up with different activities that will showcase the importance of STEM in our society. Each grade level was tasked to do different outputs in relation to STEM. In the elementary level, they were assigned to do simple tasks to show the different science process skills. Grade 4 pupils were tasked to make a poster essay to identify ways on how to help conserve and preserve the ecosystem, grade 5 pupils were told to create eco-friendly products, and grade 6 were designated to create infographics.
High school students were given the task to do outputs that focus on showcasing the importance of STEM for the national development goals of our country. Grade 7 conducted a mini research project. Grade 8 made a comic strip about the developments and innovations in Biological Science. Grade 9 created an infomercial about the positive and negative effects of chemical compounds on the environment and the human body. Grade 10 made a video presentation on the importance, relevance, and application of STEM in different fields. Lastly, grades 11 and 12 made a video presentation about the implications of STEM in our modern society.
These activities given to students were then showcased individually in their respective classes during the culminating activity of Science Month held on September 21, 2022. Based on the finished outputs of the students, the relevance and importance of STEM were integrated into the minds of Peterians.
Even though the celebration of Science Month has ended, it is still important to take an interest and be knowledgeable about the importance of STEM in our daily lives because it enhances critical thinking skills, instills a passion for innovation that boosts the economy, and develops students’ problem-solving skills that fuel success across a variety of tasks and disciplines.
