Welcome to St. Peter the Apostle School!
Jubilee of Lectors, Choir Members and Commentators
As we gather today to celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we contemplate on our calling to serve like her.
Every time we come to Mass, God invites each of us to serve Him. Just like Mary said “yes” to the Angel and became the first person to carry Jesus, we are also called to say "yes" to God — especially during the Eucharist, when we receive Jesus in Holy Communion.
When the Angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her she would be the mother of Jesus, she responded, “I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say.” That moment was her big "yes" to God. By saying yes, she welcomed Jesus into her life in a very special way.
In a similar way, when we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus at Mass, we also welcome Him into our lives. Even before the very first Mass ever happened, Mary was already living the kind of faith we need to have at the Eucharist. She showed us what it means to totally trust and follow God.
What This Means for Our Roles at Mass
Whether you’re a lector, singer, or someone who helps explain the readings, your job is more than just reading or singing — you’re helping others hear and respond to God’s Word, just like Mary did.
Lectors (Readers)
Lectors read from the Bible during Mass. When they do this, they’re helping everyone hear God’s Word clearly and open their hearts to Jesus. Like Mary, they are saying “yes” to God’s message and sharing it with others.
Choir and Singers
The choir helps lift our hearts to God through music. Their songs remind us of Mary’s prayer of praise, the Magnificat, where she thanked God with joy. When we sing at Mass, we help the whole Church celebrate and thank God together.
Commentators
These are the people who introduce the readings or guide the faithful in the Mass. Their job is to help everyone to actively participate in the mass.
Serving Like Mary, Together
Everyone who helps at Mass — readers, singers, commentators — is part of one big team. We are all trying to follow Mary’s example by saying "yes" to God. By giving our time, voices, and hearts, we help the Church come alive in worship.
Just like Mary carried Jesus in her womb, we are called to carry Jesus in our hearts — and bring Him to others.
Mary, Pray for Us
Let’s ask Mary, the Mother of the Church, to pray for us. May she help us to always say “yes” to God, so that the Eucharist can change us — making us more loving, faithful, and ready to serve, just like her.
