Empowering the Future through Reading: A Reading Spell-Off to Unlock Possibilities

The hope of the future lies in the pages of the books and the letters in the stories. Every word that students utter and every concept that they grasp radiates a promising glimmer of hope. This year’s Reading Month celebration with the theme: “Pagbasa: Pag-asa sa Matatag na Kinabukasan” encourages students to see reading as an essential part of their development – an instrument that will lead to having a stable future. On December 1 and 4, Peterians were tasked to participate in different activities such as the spelling quiz bee for Grades 1 to 10 and the respective tasks for each grade level. Grade 7 students made illustrated book covers exhibiting different stories. Grade 8, on the other hand, made paper mâché characters from Afro-Asian and Philippine literary texts. Grade 9 students did pop-up book scenes excerpted from American literature. And lastly, Grade 10 students made big books featuring their own stories. Moreover, Grade school pupils did coloring activities that featured some of the popular book characters that are well-loved by kids while others made their own bookmarks and simple book covers that let them re-imagine their favorite stories.During the program, the essence of Reading Month was discussed. It was reiterated to the students that this celebration aimed to promote the love for reading and to express the joy that all incredible books and enchanted tales have brought to our lives.
